Mothers

 I've a  magnifying mirror

What  joy am I hoping to find?

My face growing like my mother's

She's long gone but lives in my mind

I once proudly drew a new friend

He complained, 'It's not a likeness

But it looks just like my father,'

That brought our friendship to an end

Now I have become my mother

Act like my mother to my son

Who listens to everything

'Though trivial? I am the one

Now I'm my grandchild's grandmother

I've grown old, wise and I am grand

Last in a long line of mothers

Who all listen. I understand

Whether you're a king or a queen

A servant, a worker or slave

We all need to write, sing or talk

Even if to a silent grave

Worldwide people pray to a God

Or phone their sister or brother

Teachers explain and preachers talk

The one who listens is mother.
